Partner of the Month: Talent Ready Utah

Vic Hockett is the Associate Commissioner of Talent Ready Utah, a center legislatively created to represent the voice of industry in developing short-term and long-term workforce development strategies. Talent Ready Utah is industry-facing and focuses on workforce alignment by convening state agencies and private sector partners to create and expand workforce training programs, K12 pathways, certificates, apprenticeships, and degrees that are executed by the state’s institutions of higher education and public school system. Hockett noticed the impact of USU Extension's ROI program in training remote workers in rural Utah and connected us with MarketStar. This partnership was successful in obtaining Utah Works funding that led to the creation of the Certified Tech Sales Professional course which is now placing rural Utah residents in high-paying remote jobs in tech sales.

The Glowing Truth About a Remote Workforce

LedgerGurus is a business that provides outsourced accounting. In the company's blog, Brittany Brown recently explained why remote work can be good for employees, businesses, and even customers.

Hybrid work environments can reduce co-worker connections

….and the innovation and productivity benefits that come with them. According to MIT Sloan researchers Kate Kellogg and Erin Kelly, in their article “cultivating employee relationships and network ties at work,” they suggest encouraging “weak tie” connections with in-person rotations around different work sites. In addition, they point out:

  1. Feeling uncertain and undervalued can lead to burnout and exhaustion. Team relationships help everyone know who is handling what and whom to ask when there’s a question. Leaders should bolster team relationships by being clear about work processes and expectations.
  2. Friendships are formed when affection and compassion are cultivated, which is harder to do in a hybrid environment. Leaders should create opportunities for employees to be together, such as setting aside time for small group discussions.
