Succes Story: Matt Pettus

Living in rural Utah we do not have as many options when it comes to employment. USU Extension's ROI program has given me the opportunity to work remotely and provided me with a path to a career that would usually only be available from a larger city. I've met some great people along the way who truly want to see their students and classmates succeed. Take one step towards them and they'll take two towards you!

-Matt Pettus

Partner of the month: Lisa Jane Laird

USU Extension's ROI program has been an asset to both our Snow College students and our service region. The remote part-time positions available to our students allow them to stay at our rural Utah college and support themselves while attending classes. It is also a benefit to our alumni who work remote full-time and spend their salaries locally to strengthen their local economies. My colleagues and I easily refer current and future Snow College students to the USU Extension ROI program to acquire remote work skills and strengthen their resumes. It is a great supplement to their Snow College degree or certification education at Snow College and gives them a skill or “Plan B” to help support themselves while in school.

ROI program releases 2022 annual report

As an educational program, we are committed to strengthening and diversifying Utah’s rural economies through remote work training. As our small team of 15 incredible people continues to grow, we are proud to report a successful year of meeting key performance indicators.

Remote jobs

7 things that awesome remote teams do that you probably don't

Are you having trouble handling your team meetings? Handle your meetings with ease by using these seven things, here are just a few:

  1. Connection before content: Kick off your meetings by creating an intentional moment of human connection, even if it's just for 30 seconds. Connection before content is the secret sauce to transforming your team from human doings into human beings.

  2. Design Content for Contribution: Turn information sharing, report outs, or presentations into an interactive experience by inviting your team's perspectives. It's like reaching out your hand and inviting somebody to the party by saying, "Come on in!"

The difference between ambition and entitlement

Ambition is when you expect yourself to close the gap between what you have and what you want.
Entitlement is when you expect others to close the gap between what you have and what you want.

If you want a remote job, the best way to close this gap yourself is through the Certified Remote Work Professional course.
